Abstract:
Pozzolanas are materials which are not cementitious in themselves but yet contain constituents which combine with lime at room temperature in the presence of water to form compounds with cementing properties. Rice husk ash is an active artificial pozzolana. Pozzolanic cements were made from rice husk ash fired at 450 degrees C with portland cement. The results have shown that the water of consistency increases with the increase of rice husk ash content. Therefore, a water reducer (plasticizer) is used in this investigation to reduce the mixing water which affects the mechanical properties. Also, the addition of rice husk ash consumes some of the liberated Ca(OH)(2) forming CSH. The combined water increases with replacement of 10\% of portland cement with rice husk ash and then decreases at 15\%.
