Abstract:
In recent years, most interests of researchers describe mechanical properties of special concrete types and designed methods of structural members without taking into consideration the economic factor. The aim of this research work is to study the economics of reinforced concrete structures design by using special concretes. To achieve the objective of this research, two stages are studied. Stage 1 includes an experimental program while stage 2 includes a case study. In stage 1, total of 29 mixes are concluded. The conducted mixes are divided into three groups; group 1 G1 includes 12 mixes of self-compacting concrete (SCC); group 2 contains eight high strength concrete mixes (HSC) and group 3 consists of eight lightweight concrete mixes (LWC). Moreover, a control mix (NWC) is investigated for comparison. A case study for three-dimensional model of conventional structure multi stories (14 Stories) designed by the help of a design software process (CSICOL TM and SAFE TM) according to (ACI-318) is investigated. The results indicated that utilizing HSC with small sections reduced the cost up to 26% for columns compared with NWC. Utilizing LWC with its benefits in (slabs and beams) and HSC in columns lead to a decrease in the total costs for reinforced concrete by 11% compared to NWC. Self-compacting concrete structures can be utilized as alternative of NWC with only additional cost up to 18%.
