Abstract:
Damage, aging or construction quality was affected due to Corrosion of reinforcement in columns. The increase in cross section of retrofitting columns is not desired due to the restriction of the architecture aspects. This paper presents results of an experimental study for retrofitting the deteriorated rectangular short columns with different aspect ratio due to corrosion, keeping the intact parts and without mounting cross section retrofitting columns resembling to the original columns sections. Three monolithic columns were used as control specimens and twelve retrofitting columns were tested under axial load. The major parameters of this study included the aspect ratio of retrofitting columns, the spiral confinement, and the strength of the spirally confined. Effectiveness of retrofitting jackets is studied considering strength, stiffens and ductility. The innovation of applying spirals confinement to rectangular column section is to take its superiority in retrofit column capacity. The test results demonstrated excellent performances.
