Abstract:
1,3,4-Oxadiazole derivative (2) and 1-(2-hydroxybenzoyl)-3-thiosemicarbazide (3) have been synthesized by the reaction of carbon disulfide and potassium thiocyanate with 1-(2-hydroxy benzoyl) hydrazine respectively. Subsequent ring closure of 3 yielded 1,2,4-triazole (4) and 1,3-thiazole derivatives (8), (9). Compound 3 has also been subjected to alkylation and acetylation. Treatment of compound 4 with ethyl bromoacetate, benzyl chloride, acrylonitrile, ethyl acrylate and methyl iodide afforded the corresponding S-substituted derivatives (12a-d) and/or the dimethyl derivative (13) respectively. The newly synthesized compounds were subjected to in vitro testing against different strains of bacteria and fungi.
