Abstract: |
The clothing and textile industry, especially the dyeing and preparation sector, is one of the largest industries with big quantities of very dangerously chemical by-products. So, the term of Eco-friendly clothes becomes inevitable particularly in the light of the recent and accumulated pollutants with large quantities which in turn lead to the environmental unbalance and threat the life.
The objective of the present study was to define a natural alternative to chemical dyes and be safe, affordable, and environmentally available providing distinctive characteristics of woolen and blended fabrics. According to the previous studies, Egypt is the first African country in the production of orange with annually 3 million tons. The peels are main by- product of oranges industry where represents about 50-60% of orange weight with pH value of 5.2, but the accumulation of a huge amount of peels could be a suitable medium for the growth of bacteria, yeast fungi and insects which in turn lead to the pollution of the surrounding environment. Therefore, this study aims to use the extract of orange peels as natural dye in dyeing the woolen fabrics and study its effect on the color stability and textile properties such as tensile strength, elongation and UV resistance.
Search Objectives:
to study the possibility of using the extract of orange peels as natural dye in dyeing the woolen fabrics(100%),and. wool blended fabrics(55%wool /45%Polyacrilic)to evaluate the effect of dyeing with orange peel extract on the color stability for sweating, washing, abrasion and light, to study the effect of dyeing with orange peel extract on the textile properties such as tensile strength and elongation and UV resistance. The obtained results showed that:
fabrics which was dyed with orange peel extract had good stability for washing, sweating and abrasion with low stability for light,
dyeing with orange peel extract improved the studied functional properties; tensile strength, elongation and ultraviolet permeability,
wool blended fabrics showed better properties than woolen fabrics(100%).
Key words: wool, orange peel, dyeing, functional properties.
