Abstract: |
The textile industry is no longer dependent only on inventions and engineering skills, but science and advanced technology present every day something new, whether in raw materials or in manufacturing machines. The wearing industry has become one of the fastest growing and innovative industries.
Wool is considered one of the most important animal fibers where its annual production is estimated at about 6% of the total world production of textile fibers. The wool is distinguished by some important properties such as the high ability of humidity retention and maintaining the body temperature as well beside its non-flammability Because of the limited world production of natural fibers which is not in line with the rapid increase in the population, the textile (spinning and weaving) industry has invented synthetic fibers which in turn can be individually used or blended with natural fibers in the textile industry in order to improve the properties of these fabrics and to meet the increased needs of the population with at affordable prices. In the present study, wool was blended with poly acrylic and Lycra. Three yarns No; 20, 30 and 40E were produced and woven as wefts then used for production of 9 samples of fabrics. Tensile strength, elongation ratio, resistance of Crimp, water absorption, abrasion resistance were determined which carried out at the spinning and weaving industry support fund, Alexandria, Egypt, The correlation coefficient was calculated and the regression line equation was determined between each thread yarn and each property, The obtained results show that:
- The fabrics produced from yarn No 20 showed the highest score for Tensile strength, water absorption and abrasion resistance as well,
- The fabrics produced from yarn No 40 were the highest in terms of elongation ratio (%) and resistance of Crimp, Thus, fabrics produced from yarn No 20 were the best in quality as fabrics suitable for using in the production of winter outerwear fabrics suitable for all sizes.
The fabrics produced from blends of 20% wool, 75% poly acrylic, 5% Lycra and yarn N°20 were the best fabrics in terms of functional performance in this study where it had the highest score with quality coefficient of 79.9% for all the various tests, The fabrics produced from blends of 70% wool, 25% poly acrylic, 5% Lycra and yarn N°40 were the worst fabrics in terms of functional performance in this study where it ranked the 9th as order with quality efficient of 70.22% for all the various tests.
Key words: Wool - synthetic fibers - acrylic – Spandex (Lycra)
