Abstract:
The effect of 4\% MgSO4, 4\% MgCl2 and sea water on the various properties of sulphate resisting cement pastes were followed up to one year. The solutions were renewed every month to keep the concentration nearly constant. The relative resistance of the hardened cement pastes against the aggressive solutions was assessed by determining compressive strength, free lime, total sulfate and total chloride content as well as microstructure of the attacked cement pastes. The mechanical, chemical, microstructure characteristics were correlated with each other and the aggressive salts as much as possible.
