INNOVATION OF A COMPUTERIZED IRRIGATION MANAGEMENT MODEL BASED ON WATER BALANCE EQUATION IN INTERCROPPED WHEAT IN OLIVE FIELD

Abstract:
The present work was conducted in an experimental field located in the Institute of Agricultural Investigation and Fishing (IFAPA), Cordoba, Andalusia, Spain (+37º 51' 19.40 "40, -4º 48' 20.70") in 2012. The objective of this investigation was to develop a mathematical computerized tool for scheduling irrigation in order to optimize irrigation water consumption through serving the effect of the interaction between environmental conditions, soil properties and crop water requirements. An irrigation model based on the water balance equation programmed in a computer application (MATLAB) was derived and tested by using actual field crop data about spring wheat (Triticum aestivum L.) and olive (Olea europaea) crops. The results indicated the possibility of determining the optimum seasonal irrigation schedule through simulating the performance of daily soil water content and comparing it with the standard case that should be provided to keep on the best vegetative growth and yield. It could be realized the adverse effect of water salinity on water availability and hence water consummating.
