Abstract:
Application of organic materials i.e. organic residues of Moringaoleifera as soil amendments is an important management strategy that can improve and uplift soil-quality characteristics and alter the nutrient cycling through mineralization or immobilization turnover of added material. Two experiments were conducted to study the effect of two types of moringaoleiferaresiduesi.e. leaves (ML) and meal seed (MMS) at a rate of 5,10 and 15 Mg ha-1on soil pH, available N,P and K content through different incubation periods as well asyield and nutrient uptake of wheat (Triticumaestivum) plants grown in sandy and calcareous soils. The values of soil pH decreased with increasing application rates of moringaresidues at different periods in the tested soils. The values of soil pH were lower with addition of MMSresiduestreatments than with ML. The highest values of available N, P and K were found in the two soils when treated with 15 Mg ha-1 of MMS followed by 15 Mg ha-1 of ML at different period. While the lowest values were obtained with untreated soils followed by 5 Mg ha-1ML. Available nitrogen was remarked increase after 90 days of incubation for the sandy and after 120 days for calcareous soils under application of moringaresidues.Available P and K contents were increased gradually up to 120daysand then decreased for the two soils. The highest values of yield, biological yield, 1000-grainweight, protein content, straw and grain yields as well as N, P and K uptake of wheat swere found in the two tested soils owing to treated with 15 Mg ha-1 of MML followed by 15 Mg ha-1 of ML.
