Abstract:
The sanitary landfills have been used as anaerobic media to produce maximum biogas rate from digested domestic wastewater sludge and organic components of solid waste (refuse). An investigation was carried out to study the effect of mixing of the digested domestic wastewater sludge and the organic components of solid waste on biogas production rate. Organic components of solid waste samples were mixed with digested sludge at different ratios to determine the best mixing ratio that will produce the maximum amount of biogas. The mixing ratio of digested domestic wastewater sludge ranged from 30\% to 100\% by weight of the organic solid waste. It has been found from this research, that mixing organic components of solid waste with digested domestic wastewater sludge is producing almost twice amount of biogas comparing with organic components of solid waste. It has been also found that the best mixing ratio (which produces the max. amount of biogas) is 50\% of the weight of organic solid waste.
