Abstract:
A new approach for the computation of electric field distributions of needle-plane gaps is, here described. The approach relies on the charge simulation method (CSM) coupled with genetic algorithms (GAs) for optimal determination of the location and value of the simulating ring charges. Different gap dimensions are studied. Accurate distributions, not only for the potential but also for the electric field have been obtained throughout the entire inerelectrode space. The proposed approach has proved to be more effective and accurate when compared with other techniques.
