Abstract:
The main objective of this paper is to design a control system based on complete feedback to maintain the structural response as minimum as possible using active tendon control mechanism. The pole assignment control technique is used to obtain the necessary control forces. In addition, the effect of variation of structural mass and stiffness parameters on the control design is studied, to find out the best type of structures that could be controlled properly by the proposed control mechanism using the response variance as a measure of the active control performance. Finally, the proposed control mechanism is checked when employed passively and actively to attain the limit beyond which the use of active control is valuable. The output results showing the reduction of the dynamic response of the example buildings are then quantified and discussed.
