Abstract:
The main reasons for the destruction of high voltage towers, especially in flood events, is the local scouring around the tower foundation. The depth of local scour around the tower footing plays an important role to design the foundations against this destructive phenomenon. Therefore, the methods of controlling and reducing this phenomenon are important. In the present study application of the collar is examined experimentally for scour control around the cone footing. The collar is installed around the cone footing at the streambed level. Six values for the relative diameter of the circular collar have been examined under clear water and live bed scourcondition. The obtained results have been compared to the single cone footing. It is found that, the circular collar in all operating condition records a reduction in the relative maximum scour depth. The larger diameter of the collar, the smaller the scour depth will be.An empirical equations are developed by regression analysis to predict the relative maximum scour depth around the cone footing with and without collar.
