Abstract:
Aminoglycosides are highly potent antibiotics with manydesirable properties for the treatment of life-threateninginfections. They are very commonly used antibiotics worldwidebecause of certain properties as rapid concentration-dependentbactericidal effects, a low rate of true resistance, synergism withother beta lactam antibiotics, and low cost of therapy. Comparedwith two of the most important aminoglycosides gentamicin andtobramycin, a lower incidence of resistance to Amikacin hasbeen observed with its increased use. However, Amikacin administration generate free radicals(reactive oxygen species) which cause tissue injury in the formof hepatotoxicity and nephrotoxicity.Combination of Amikacin and natural antioxidant substancesuch as Propolis can be effective in overcoming Amikacinadverse effects. The present study was carried out to evaluate the efficacy ofAmikacin sulfate alone and in combination with PropolisExperimental design:-Ninty six adult male albino rats were divided into eight equalgroups each of twelve rats.
