Serological and hematological studies on ehrlichia canis in dogs

Abstract:
A total of 100 serum samples of trained athletics dogs, belonging to dogs guarding section, transportation unit, K9, ministry of Interior Affair (MIA) were used to study the prevalence of Ehrlichia canis. All animals were imported and native purebred GermBlood films were prepared, stained with Giemsa stain and examined for at least 100 oil immersion fields (OIFs), for detection of morulae or initial bodies, when morulae were found in at least one cell of monocytes or lymphocytes, the examined sample was cSerum was separated from the collected blood samples and slide antigens were prepared for the detection of E. canis antibodies by indirect immune florescent technique. After the performance of IFT, each slide was examined under the UV microscope (magnificEDTA Blood samples were collected and examined using Medonic CA 620 blood counter for estimation of complete blood picture of dogs found positive by IFA.
