Some Studies on Rabbit Pasteurellosis

Abstract:
In Egypt, Rabbit industry is of value in production of meat.Rabbit meat is easily digestible, poor in fat and palatable. Thushighly recommended to sick and convalescent people. In addition,the skin is a good source for fur production.This study was planned to throw some light on the prevalenceof Pasteurella multocida at Sharkia Governorate, Egypt. Threehundred samples were collected from 13 rabbitaries in differentlocalities in Sharkia. These farms included four from Minia Elkamh with a total samples 143; three farms from El-Salheia AlGededa, 72 samples; two farms from Belbeis , 15 samples; one farmfrom Hehia, 30 samples were obtained; two farms in Zagazig, 20samples and thirteen farms from Abou Hammad, 20 samples.The clinical findings of naturally infected rabbits wererecorded in the form of depression, inappetance, decrease waterintake and specific symptoms either in the form of ocular and nasaldischarges, sneezing coughing,( snuffle );wry neck; conjunctivitis;subcutaneous abscesses with severe emaciation and variablemortalities, mastitis ,infertility with pus discharges from urogenitalopemng.The postmortem findings of freshly dead and sacrificed rabbitsrevealed septicemia, Lungs were either congested; containedEchymotic hemorrhages or multiple abscesses. Trachea wascongested and contained frothy exudates. Large and multipleabscesses were also seen in the thoracic cavity or Sic tissues.orchitis, mastitis; pyometra; and presence of inspissated pus in thedeeper structures of the ear. The brain was congested.
