Abstract:
Coccidiosis is considered as a highly destructive disease as it wasexamined in many farms in different governorates (Dakahlia, Sharkia,Domiatte and Gharbia). Seventy broiler farms were examined clinicallyfor suspected outbreaks of avian coccidiosis. The result revealed that 50broiler farms showed cecal coccidiosis (71.4%), 12 broiler farms showedmixed infection of cecal and intestinal coccidiosis (17.1 %), while 8 farmsshowed intestinal coccidiosis only (11.4%). In order to isolate andidentify a field isolate of cecal E.species, the isolation was performedfrom chickens suffered from clinical cases of cecal coccidiosis only. Theexamined chickens had petechial hemorrhages on the serosal surface ofceci, severe distention of cecal tubes with thickened cecal wall and cecalcontents ranged from brownish in color to coagulated blood or bloodycontents and presence of cecal core. Site of infection proved to be cecionly relevant to direct wet smear and concentration flotation technique.Morphological examination revealed that cecal E.oocysts was oval uniquein shape. The histopathological examination revealed that the cecal lumenwas filled with necrotic debris, blood and oocysts (cecal core). The cecalwall was destructed with exposure of blood vessels and presence ofnumerous erythrocytes and leukocytes together with developmentalstages in hyperplastic and destructed glands. The muscularis wasedematous and infiltrated with leukocytes and erythrocytes. The serosal
