Studies on mycotic agents causing dermatomycos infection in poultry

total of 150 samples, collected from comb and wattles of apparently diseased chicken, were subjected for mycologicalexamination.Direct microscopic examination (KOH) revealed positive in 19.3 %, fungal elements varied from yeast cells, septated branched hyphae and irregular hyphae or spores.Culturing of specimens on Sabouraud dextrose agar revealed the isolation of fungi in 43.3% ofthem.The isolated yeasts (16%) and 38 non dermatophyte fungi 25.3%.The dermatophyte isolates were identified as M gallinae.Twenty four yeast isolates revealed 16 Candida species, 3 Trichosporon Spp., 3 Rhodotorula species and two Cryptococcus species. The identification of Candida species showed 10 Candida albicans (6.7 %), 3 Candida parapsilosis and 3 Candida tropicalis (2 %Rhodotorula rubra (1.3%) and one Rhodotorula glutinis (0.7%).The identification of Cryptococcus species revealed that allisolates (2 isolates) identified as Cryptococcus laurentii (1.3 %).Trichosporon species were isolated from 3 samples.
