Comparative study between traditional methods and recent techniques for diagnosis of caseous lymphadenitis in sheep and goats

Abstract:
Caseous lymphadenitis (CLA) is recognized worldwide as the most important disease affecting sheep and goats and causing high economic losses to animals. C. pseudotuberculosis as a causative CLA pathogen has received a lot of attention in the last decade aIn this study, 180 sheep and goat with previous history of CLA (120 from sheep and 60 from goats) were examined to detect occurrence of CLA.Clinical examination revealed that the prevalence of CLA among examined sheep and goats (13 strains isolated from sheep and 6 strains isolated from goat) was 10.83% and 10%, respectively. Moreover, the total incidence of CLA isolates from different localiPrevalence of C. pseudotuberculosis isolated from CLA sheep in El-Sharkia Governorate was 10.6% (5 out of 47 sheep examined), in El-Dakahlya Governorate was 11.1% (1 out of 9 sheep examined), while in Cairo Governorate was 4.44% (2 out of 45 sheep examine
