Abstract:
Caseous lymphadenitis (CLA) is recognized worldwide as the most important disease affecting sheep and causing high economic losses to animals. C. Pseudotuberculosis as a causative CLA pathogen has received a lot of attention in the last decade as it is onIn this study, 50 pus swabs from sheep abscesses with previous history of CLA were examined to detect occurrence of CLA as well as thirty lymph nodes. The results revealed the isolation of 15 isolates of C.pseudotuberculosis from 50 sheep pus swabs as well as 10 isolates from 30 lymph nodes. The superficial lymph nodes showing enlargement and squeezing pus and the internal lymph nodes showing douphy enlC. pseudotuberculosis were isolated from superficial and internal lymph nodes obtained from slaughtered sheep. The incidence of isolates of C. pseudotuberculosis in superficial lymph nodes is higher than that of internal lymph nodes. All isolates were identified by microscopical, colonial, morphological and biochemical characters which include nitrate reduction, urease test and fermentation
