Abstract:
A total of 96 of clinically healthy mature albino rats of both sexeswere divided into 6 groups, each group contains 16 rats. Group l(G 1)was the positive control which was given ethylene thiourea at a doseof 300 mg/L of drinking water for 24 successive weeks. Group (G2)was given aqueous extract of Purslane (1.8 mg / rat in one m1 saline)besides ETU one month after Purslane at a dose of 300 mg/L .Group(G3) will be concurrently given both aqueous extract of Purslane (1.8/mg/rat in one m1 saline) and ETU at same time and dose. Group (G4)was given 200 gm raw green Purslane simultaneously with ETU atsame time and dose. Group (GS) was the positive control which wasgiven aqueous extract of Purslane 1.8 mg / rat in one m1 saline for 24successive weeks. Group (G6) was the negative control which wasgiven saline in drinking water.Eight rats from each group will be sacrificed after 12 and ratsafter 24 weeks and necropsied. Specimen was collected from thyroidglands, lungs, liver, kidneys, stomach and intestine.Rats which received ETU showed nausea, ruffled or easilyremoved hair and dark black swelling over the skin, this swelling wasulcerated leave ulcer with raised border. Alopecia, unbalancedmovement, decrease water and food consumptions were seen. Markedswelling on both side of the neck were seen. Macroscopically, thethyroid glands were severally enlarged, appear pale tan to grey incolor, soft and fleshy along the period of the experiment.
