Studies On Some Bacterial Causes Of Embryonic Death In Ostrich

In the course of this investigation under mentioned conditions the following results were obtained:1. The hatchability of incubated ostrich eggs obtained was low between (36-43%).2. Recommended incubator disinfection with Virkon S 5% spray between hatched resulted an increase of hatchability which reached 50-54% which point out to an management problem (Bacterial contamination) isolated bacteria were E.Coli, Staphylococcus aureus,3. Incubated eggs were negative for bacterial isolation when examined at 14 &28 days of incubation but those died at 38 day post incubation showed the isolation of E.Coli &Staphylococcus aureus.4. Breeder cloacal swabs revealed the isolation of E.Coli, Klebsiella pneumoniae &Provedencia rettergii.5. Bacterial examination of dead 3 day old hatched ostrich chick revealed picture of unabsorbed yolk sac &inflamed intestine and revealed Klebsiella pneumoniae, Proteus spp &E.Coli from lung, liver &yolk sac.6. Inner shell swabs of hatched chicks revealed E.Coli, Klebsiella pneumoniae & Provedencia rettergii.
