Abstract:
Summary:- The present study was undertaken to evaluate the biochemical effects of chromium on carbohydrate and lipid metabolism.Its effects on immunity was also investigated. For these purposes four groups of rats (each of ten) were used.I. control group was fed on standard diet for 6 weeks .II. Streptozotocin-induced diabeticgroup injected with streptozotocin at a single dose of 50 mg/kg B.wt. intraprotonealIII. Streptozotocin-induced diabetic group treated with chromium. Picolinate 18 mg/kg B.wt. for 6 weeks, orally, single dose per day.IV. Normal group treated with chromium picolinate at a dose of 18 mg/kg B.wt., once a day orally.Blood samples from rats under study were used for determination of fasting and post prandial blood glucose levels, lipid profile [Cholesterol, Triacylglycerol, HDL, LDL and VLDL]; Insulin,C-peptide, fructosamine, total IgG and total
