Abstract:
Two hundred quails with age ranging between 7 days to 6 months old were collected from different farms at Dakahlia province, Port Said and Kafer El-Sheikh province. These quailswere submitted to bacteriological, parasitological and pathological examinations. The bacteriological and biochemical identification declaredthe presence of Escherichia coli ’ in 125 cases (62.5%), Clostridium colinum in 36 cases (18%). The parasitological examination declared the presence ofprotozoal species specially coccidiosis in 36 quails samples(18%), nematodes (Ascaridia galli) in two quail (1 %) andcestodes in one quail (0.5%).The clinical signs of quail infected with E. coli(colibacillosis) were respiratory manifestation, severe weakness,depression, retardation of growth and diarrhea. The mortality rateamong infected flock reached to 90% in younger age. Themacroscopic finding in this work were hyperemia andenlargement of the internal organ with the yellowish coloration ofliver in some cases beside fibrinous pericarditis, perihepatitis, airsaculitis together with congested and edematous lungs withpresence of pneumonic nodular areas. Catarrhal enteritis, necroticareas in liver and spleenomegaly were also recorded.
