A Study On Cestodiasis In Chickens

Abstract:
The present study dealt with cestode helminthes infesting chickens. A total number of 860 chickens from different ages representing all of the production types (Layers, Breeders, Broilers,Saso broilers and Back yards) obtained from. chickens were collected either alive or freshly dead during the period extended from March 2005 till the end of February 2006 .from 860 examined chickens 37 birds found to be infestedwith different types of cestode worms .The percentage of infestationwas (4.3%) . The recorded cestodes in this study were Raillietina tetragona,Raillietina echinobothrida , Raillietina cesticillus , Choanotaeniainfundibulum and Raillietina ransomi in an incidence percentage97.2 % ,91.9%, 59.4% ,40.54% and 18.9% respectively. Raillietina ransomi was the first record in Egypt and outside the U.S.A. from 1962 till now.The infestation incidence with cestodes was during February,April, May, July, September, November and December.The highest rate of Raillietina tetragona infestation incidence100% was recorded in April, May, July, September, November and December while, only 50% infestation incidence was recorded in February and not detected in March, June, August, October andJanuary. While, Raillietina echinobothrida highest infestationincidence 100% was recorded in April, May, July, September”,November and February while, only 40% infestation incidencewas recorded in December .
