Pathological, studies on some bacterial disease causing DROP in egg production of layer flocks

Abstract:
Our work was were performed on 10 layer farms of about 200000 Saso hens at Sharkia, Ismailia and Kalubia provinces, the birds weresuffering from a DROP in egg production in a different levels and seasons during the period from May 2004 to May 2005. The collected specimens from about 100 birds taken under aseptic condition for bacteriological isolation and identification and histopatClinically, the affected birds suffering from salmonellosisrevealed anorexia, ruffled feathers, conjunctivitis, nasal and oculardischarges, swollen comb and wattles, facial edema, sinusitis, rales,gasping, sneezing and diarrhea (in some cases) beside different levelsof DROP in egg production.Salmonellosis (Salmonella pullorum) induce about 15% DROP inegg production specially at the beginning of productive age. Grossly,egg peritonitis, misshaped, discolored, cystic and pedunculated ovabesides congested liver, heart, spleen and kidneys. Microscopically,hemosiderosis in the ovarian stroma, cystic follicles with absence ofnucleus and coagulated yolk and caseous exudate in the ovarianstroma beside presence of atretic follicles were common. The oviductshowed destruction and necrosis of mucosal epithelium and glandularepithelium, beside edema, heterophilic infiltration and congestion insubmucosa.Colibacillosis (E. coli infection) induced about 19% DROP in eggproduction.
