Abstract:
The objective of the present work was to investigate the Ornithobacterium rhinotracheal infection problem in Sharkia province . A total of 587 examined birds (206 layers, 200 broilerchickens , 50 turkeys, 100 ducks and 31 pigeons) were collected from different farms of different districts at Sharkia Governorate. These birds were suffering from respiratory troubles. Thecollected birds were subjected to clinical and postmorternexamination. Seasonal variation of ORT among examined birds revealedthat the incidence of infection in winter was higher than in summerseason. A total of (68) isolates of ORT could be isolated from examined birds with incidence of (29) isolates from layers , (20) isolates from broiler chickens, (8) isolates from turkeys, (8) isolates from ducks and (3) isolates from pigeons. The organismdiseased examined birds with reparatory symptoms in the followingmanner net respectively, 43 (20.87%) , 8 (3.88%) 14 (6.7%) ,0(0.00/0), 2 (0.90/0) and 1 (0.140/0).Morphological and biochemical reactions revealed the identity of ORT isolates. All of these strains were oxidase positive, catalase negative, gram negative rod shaped bacteria.
