Abstract:
Cefoperazone has now proved to be the most valuable drug for the treatment of severe respiratory infections, urinary infections and some gynecological infection in human and animal species.The present study was contrived to study the hurtful effects of cefoperazone on developing rat foeti during early uterine lives, after parturition effect on growth rate and body weight, mutagenic effect of drug and on fertility of male rats.1- Effects on developing foeti :The effect of cefoperazone in therapeutic does (9 mg /200 gm b.wt/12 hrs/day) given I/M for 5 successive days, on foetal development was investigated on thirty mature female albino rats, using ten mature male albino rats for mating.Pregnant rats were divided into three equal groups each of ten as follow:The first group received no medication and considered as control.The second group was injected intramuscularly from the 6th through the 10th day of gestation with cefoperazone (9 mg /200 gm b.wt /12hrs /day).The third group was injected intramuscularly from the 11th through the 15th day of gestation with the same drug in the same regimen.
