Abstract:
One hundred and eighty adult albino rats divide into 4 groups to studythe toxic and pathological lesions beside the teratological effect ofclomipramine Hcl and lithium carbonate. First and third groups weresubdivided into 3 subgroups. First 2 subgroups were kept as control, while, the second 2 subgroups were given therapeutic doses of clomipramine Hcl;(4.5mgl200g b.wt.) and Li2C03; (21.6mg 1200g b.wt.) respectively, dailythrough stomach tube and the third 2 subgroups were given doubletherapeutic doses of clomipramine Hcl; (9mgl200g b. wt.) and LhC03;(43.2mg 1200g b.wt.) respectively, daily through stomach tube. The treatedrats were sacrificed after 30, 60 and’ 90 days from drug administration.Second and fourth groups each consisted of 36 rats which subdividedinto 3 subgroups each contained 12 rats (30’ and 9~ where males were usedonly for mating). First 2 subgroups were kept as control while, in the second2 subgroups, the pregnant rats were given therapeutic doses of clomipramineHcl; (4.5mgl200g b.wt.) and LhC03; (21.6mg 1200g b.wt.) respectively, andin the third 2 subgroups the pregnant rats were given double therapeuticdoses of Clomipramine Hcl; (9mg/200g b.wt.) and Li2C03; (43.2mg 1200gb.wt.) respectively. The drugs were administrated through stomach tubefrom 6th to 15th days of gestation and the dam rats were sacrificed at the 20thday of gestation. The liver of rats received T.D. and D.D. of clomipramineHcl revealed variable lesions which differ according to the duration anddoses. The lesions varied from congestion, lymphocytic- infiltrations in the portal areas, hyperplasia of the bile ducts, vacuolar and hyDROPic
