Abstract:
Foot and mouth disease is the most devastating economic animal disease. Goats are common species among peasants and bedouin in our country. Therefore, more stress was needed to study FMD in goats. -Eight male susceptible goats were inoculated intradermolingualy with foot andmouth disease virus strain EGY/01/93. Two male goats and two rams(susceptible to serotype 01193 FMDV) were introduced to experimentallyinfected goats l-day post infection. The animals were observed daily forelevation of body temperature and clinical evidence of FJ\1D virus infection- Blood samples, on anticoagulant, were collected during period of viraemia fordetection ofFJ\1D virus in buffy coat of infected and contact animals.-Four of the infected goats were slaughtered weekly, started from the 1 si week, for detection of foot and mouth disease virus in different organs (lymph node, testis, liver, lung, spleen and kidney).-Oesophageal- pharyngeal fluid (OP) samples were collected, by probangsampling cup, for detection of FMD virus carrier goats and sheep.-Serum samples were collected from infected and in-contact animals (goats and sheep) weekly, then every 2 weeks.-Enzyme linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA), immunofluorescent technique(IF) and inoculating unweaned suckling mice were used for detection of FMDvirus in buffy coat, organs and oesophageal- pharyngeal fluid samples; while
