Experimental pathologic studies of some medicinal plants used as antihep atotoxic in albino rats

Abstract:
The present study was carried out on ninety male albino rat s in orderto investigate effect of some medicinal plants as Cynara scolymus andGlycyrrhiza glabra on albino rats intoxicated with aflatoxin B l :This study was performed on 7 groups of albino rats. Groups I, 11 &Ill, V, VI were consisted of 75 rats (each of 15 rats), group IV wasconsisted of 9 rats and group VII was consisted of 6 rats.The obtained results were summarized into the following:1- Medicinal plants:A) Cynara scolymus extract:15 rats in group II which given aflatoxin B \ were treated by dailydose of Cynara scolymus at a dose of 200 mg/kg B.W. for trlee successivedays given orally. Five rats were sacrificed after 1,2,3 months post-administration of the plant. Group V was used as positive control in whichrats administered Cynara scolymus only for three successive days orally.Five rats were sacrificed after 1,2,3 months post-administration of theplant. Mild congestion of the portal blood vessels together with decrease inthe number of proliferated bile ductules in addition to the presence oflymphocytic infiltration in the portal area were seen in the rats whichtreated with artichoke and sacrificed after one month. Moreover,degenerative changes represented by hyDROPic degeneration and fatty
