Abstract:
This study on avian influenza in migratory quails was carried out to investigate the role of these birds in the transmission of avian influenza to Egypt during migration season as follow:• Seventy eight cloacal and tracheal swabs were prepared appropriately by the addition of antibiotic mixture containing (penicillin, 10000 IU; streptomycin sulfate, 2000 µg; gentamycin sulfate, 1000 µg; and amphotericin B 20 µg) and subjected to the stand• The other 4 isolates were identified by HI test using standerd specific (H5N1) antiserum.• Titration of the 4 isolates was carried out according to the method of Read and Muench (1938) where the titer was 108.8 , 108.2, 107.5 and 107.7 respectively.• In studying the pathogenecity of the isolated AIV for domestic poultry (chickens & ducks), 2 experiments were carried out as the following:Experiment 1: to study the effect of the isolated AIV on ducks1-Ten unvaccinated 6 weeks old balady ducks were infected with 0.2 ml ×10-6 AIV H5N1. The cloacal shedding persistent for 17 days p.i. while the tracheal shedding persists for 19 days p.i. with total mortalities of 7/10 (70%).2-Ten unvaccinated 6 weeks old balady ducks were infected with 0.2 ml ×10-8 AIV H5N1. The clinical sings including off food, recumbancy, watery and/or greenish diarrhea then nervous sings and mortality on the 8th days which no exceed 4/10.The cloacal and
