Abstract:
Phagocytosis is one of the nonspecific immune response of the host against invading microorganisms, it is an essential process by which professional phagocytes (e.g.macrophages and neutrophils) engulf invading micro-organisms, apoptotic cells and other foThis study was planned as an attempt to throw spot lights upon the phagocytosis in health and disease for attaining this purpose the following points were undertaken:1-Blood and sera samples were collected from apparently healthy mice and those experimentally infected with S.aureus.2-Blood and sera samples were also taken from both apparently healthy human and those infected with HCV.3-For all samples, complete blood pictures were done and phagocytic activity of neutrophils were determined in all examined samples together with human IL-2 concentration was also measured in sera of HCV patients. The obtained data revealed that:I-In case of apparently healthy mice and those infected with S.aureus:1. The total leucocytic count in control healthy mice was ranged from (1.1X103 to 8.0X103 cells/ml), with a mean of (4.917X103), while in experimentally infected mice with S.aureus was ranged from (4.7X103 to 16.9X103 cells/mm3), with a mean of (9.202 X10
