Parasites of Public Health Importance Among Marine and Fresh Water Fishes

Abstract:
A total of 860 fish samples [400 from each of fresh water fishes(represented by Tilapia spp. and Clarias lazera) and marine fishes(represented by Mugil spp. and Sardine) beside 60 samples of smokedHerring fish] were randomly collected from Damietta city fish marketsfrom April 2004 to March 2005 through four seasons (Spring, Summer,Autumn and Winter). The collected samples from fresh and marine waterfishes were examined for prevalence of encysted metacercariae andsubmitted for some treatment methods to study their effect on infectivity ofexisted metacercariae.The results declared that metacercariae detected in fresh water fisheswith a percentage of (82%) and (87.5%) for Tilapia spp. and Clarias lazerarespectively.Concerning seasonal variation, the results declared that the highestinfection of the examined fish samples was found during Summer seasons90% of Tilapia spp. and 98% for Clarias lazera followed by Autumn 84%and 90% then Spring 82% and 84% and the lowest infection was found
