Abstract:
Fish containing pesticide residues adversely affect human health.Such residues contaminate fish through water in which they live. Water isliable to be contaminated by air drafts during spraying crops or unhygienicdisposal of pesticides, clothes and containers used during this process orthrough illegal use for such harmful compounds during fish catching. Therefore, the present study aim to induce the following parts:Part I:During the course of this study a total of 300 fish samplesrepresenting two species of fish (150 each ofT.nilotica and M. cephalus)collected from Sharkia-governorate were examined for three hundredsamples determination of pesticide residues (organochlorine andorganophosphorus) using thin layer chromatography.A- Organochlorine (DDT, DDE, Lindane and Dieldrin):The mean levels of D:CT residues in Tilapia nilotica and Mugil cephaluswere 3.39±0.43 and 3.16±0.38 mg/kg wet. wt. , the percentage ofcontamination were 9.33 and 13.33% and samples containing more thanmaximal residual limits representing 1.33 and 2% respectively. While themean levels of DDE residues in Tilapia nilotica and Mugil cephalus were3.62±0.41 and 3.25±0.27 mg/kg wet.wt., The percentage of contaminationwere 12 and 20%, respectively and no samples containing more thanmaximal residual limits. The mean levels of lindane residues in Tilapia
