Abstract:
The present study was carried out to elucidate the toxic effectof the fungicide metalaxyl on blood picture, chromosomes of bonemarrow cells, nucleic acid content, biochemical parameters, histopathological picture besides metalaxyl residues in rat tissues.Eighty mature albino rats were divided into two main groupseach group contain fourty rats. The first group divided intothiliy(30) rats administered orally lis LOso ofmetalaxyl (l33.8mg/kb b.wt.) three times weekly for two weeks, the rest of rats ( 10)served as control. The second group also divided into 2 sub groups,a treated group contain thirty (30) rats administered 1/10 LOso ofmetalaxyl (66.9 mglkb b.wt.) orally twice weekly for two monthsand the other ten( 1 0) rats served as control.Effect of metalaxyl on body weight:In this study we noticed that there was a decrease in the finalweights of treated rats when compared to the initial weights, therewas also a significant decrease in the weight of treated rats of bothgroups comparing with control groups. Rats administered lis LDsoofmetalaxyl (133.8 mglkb b.wt.) three times weekly for two weeksshowed a clear decrease in the liver weight comparing with control, this decrease was also obvious in rats administered I I 10 LOso ofmetalaxyl (66.9 mglkg b.wt.) orally twice weekly for two monthswhen compared to control at the end of the experiment. ThisIexperiment also revealed a significant decrease in kidney weight ofboth treated groups in comparison to control groups. The spleen
