Abstract:
Marbofloxacin is a new fluoroquinolone antimicrobial agent used in the veterinary field for prevention and treatment of respiratory diseases of herbivores, pets ,swine and poultry. In poultry, marbofloxacin is used for the control of colibacillosis affecting poultry industry that cause major economic losses. The present study was carried out to evaluate the efficacy of intramascular injection of marbofloxacin (10mg/kg b.wt) for 5 successive days against experimentally E.Coli infected chickens. In addition to study effect of treatment on some liver and kidney The results were summarized as follow:A)In-vitro antibacterial activity of marbofloxacin:The present study demonstrated that the minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) of fluoroquinolone marbofloxacin against pathogenic E.Coli O78 serotype of avian origin was 0.009 indicating that, the tested bacteria were highly susceptible to marbofloxacin. The minimum bactericidal concentration (MBC) of marbofloxacin against E.coli O78 serotype of avian origin was 0.02µg/ml.Marbofloxacin has a potent inhibitory effect against tested bacteria compared with other tested antimicrobal agents, where tested bacteria were very highly sensitive to marbofloxacin.
