Abstract:
The present study extended from October 2005 till the end of September 2006. The study was carried out on 356 (76 smoked and 280 frozen) fish and were examined for the presence of the parasites. Also, it was observed that the collected fish hosts were sixpilchardus).The present study revealed that 245 (68.82%) out of 356 examinedfish were infected with different types of parasites. The total infection rateof fishes by monogenetic trematodes, digenetic trematodes, nematodes,Acanthocephala and Crustacea were 15.45%,17.98%,52.81%,6.74% and1.12%, respectively.Dealing with the susceptability of examined fish species to parasiticinfection. Herring fish iClupea tiarenguss was the most susceptible toparasitic infection as the infection rate was (100% in frozen herring fis.and 98.68% in smoked one) for different species of parasites, this wasfollowed by silver smelt (Argentina si/us) as the infection rate was91.67%, then horse mackerel (Trachurus mediterraneus) as the infectionrate was 68.33%.Chub mackerel (Scomber japonicus), Mackerel (Scomberscombrus) were less susceptible to parasitic infection as the infection rate was 61.02% and 51.85%, respectively.
