Abstract:
In the present study, some parasitic worms infesting fishes of River Nilein Dakahlia governorate and Abbassa fish farms have been investigated.The results of this work could be summarized asfollows: (1) The external clinical signs and postmortem lesions in infested fishes revealedrespiratory manifestations; the gills were either congested and hyperemicin some cases or pale and anemic with excessive mucous secretion inother cases. Some Clarias gariepinus showed whitish cysts in gills andblack spots on skin while Oreochromis niloticus showed large, yellowishto orange cysts embedded between gill arch. The infestation with internalworms revealed skin darkness, frayed fins and emaciation in some casesand ascitis in others. Intestinal wall was congested and hemorrhagic.Some internal organs were swollen and some worms can be seen bynaked eye. (2) The prevalence of parasitic worms among 356 fish collected from River Nile and 175 fish from Abbassa fish farms were 57.58% and 68% respectively.
