Abstract:
In the course of this investigation the following results, under experimental conditions could be summarized in the following: 1- Eight broiler flocks suffering from stunting, were subjected to investigation in a trial to find out the role played by Reoviinduction of this syndrome experimentally. a- The clinical picture and postmortem lesions observed were nmting, J stunting, enteritis and pro ventriculitis as the main features of this disease condition.b- Pathologically the most prominent features were proventriculitis, apoptosis of the glandular epithelium, enteritis, liver degeneration, focal hemorrhage with individualization of the pancreatic acini andducts. The myocardium showed heterophil infiltration. The brain showed encephalomalacia beside necrosis of some Purkinji cells. c- Inclusion bodies were observed in some visceral organs of the affected flocks:- Intranuclear inclusions were observed in the proventriculus, duodenum, jejunum and pancreatic duct, but their relation to the poultry viruses couldn’t be investigated.- Intracytoplasmic inclusion, characteristic for Reovirus, wasdemonstrated in the proventriculus.2- Virus isolation trials resulted in isolation of 8 viral agents, which wereidentified as Reoviruses based on chloroform sensitivity, AGPT andserum neutralization beside intracytoplasmic inclusions, which weredemonstrated in the hepatocytes and CAM of the inoculated chickenembryos, examined histopathologically.3- To induce IRSS, highlighted by the documented vertical transmissionproperty of Reovirus, fertile eggs were inoculated with 103, 102 virusparticle before setting. Mortality was associated with the inoculated
