Bacteriological Studies on Campylobacter Microorganisms In Chicken

Abstract:
In this study, a total of 2979 chickens of different breeds, ages and localities in Sharkia Governorate were subjected to bacteriological examination for Campylobacter isolation. Examination of 866 apparently normal, diseased and dead broiler chickens of respectively with an all incidence of 40.2%.Examination of 2113 apparently normal, diseased and dead layerchickens of 2 different breeds (balady and Lohman breeds) revealed theisolation of Campylobacter with an incidence of 19.6% and 17.2%respectively with an all incidence of 18.6%. On identification, C. jejuni was the most predominant species at anincidence of 71.1 % followed by C. coli (22.2%) and C. laridis (6.7%).Different selective media including modified blood free Campylobacter selective agar, Skin-ow’smedia, blood agar with antibiotics and thioglycollate media as well as filtration method were checked for Campylobacter isolation and it was found that the highblood agar with antibiotics (21.8%), filtration method (21.1 %) andthioglycollate media (20.5%).
