Abstract:
Antioxidant drugs play a vital role in defense system in vivoagainst oxidative stress induced by free radicals and reactive oxidativespecies. While vitamin E and ginseng are widely used to maintain thehealth of people and prevent diseases, only Vit E is used in animals toimprove their health condition and elevate their defense system. The present study was conducted to throw the light on theprotective effect of vitamin E, ginseng and their combination onhepatic and renal toxicity induced by gentamicin in male rats.Experimental design:After one week of acclimatization, seventy adult male albinorats were randomly allocated into 7 equal groups each of 10 animals.r’ group (Control)2nd group (Vit E): was given vitamin E 100mglkg b.wt oncedaily for 10 successive days orally as standard antioxidant3rd group (PG): was given Panex ginseng (PG) 200 mg / kgb.wt. once daily for 10 successive days orally.4th group (GS): was given gentamicin (GS) 100 mg/kg b.wt.liP once daily for 10 successive days.5th group (Vit E+GS): was given vitamin E 100 mg/kg B.wt.once daily for 3days before GS administration and simultaneously withGS (lOO mg/kg b.wt IIP once daily for 10 successive days).6th group (PG +GS): was given PG 200 mg I kg b.wt once dailyfor 3days before GS administration and simultaneously with GS (100mg/kg b.wt. liP once daily for 10 successive days).rh group (PG+ Vit E + GS): was given PG 200 mg/ kg b.wt andvitamin E 100 mg/kg b.wt orally once daily for 3days before GS
