Abstract:
Pregnancy toxaemia is considered as one of the most common metabolic diseases which affects both sheep and goats at the late stage of pregnancy causing sever losses on the productivity.Therefore this study was planned to find out a new role in the diagnosisof this disease and also, to find an effective therapeutic protocol. This study was conducted on 535 animals (315 sheep and 225 goats) some of themsuffered from loss of appetite, dullness recumbence and the others suffered from nervous manifestation. After clinical examination of the animals and urine test were done, 116 animals (55 sheep and 61 goats), at 3-6 years age~ included in this study.1- Preliminary Study: Eighteen apparently clinically healthy ewe and does aged from 3 to 6 yeas were selected randomly to investigate the levels of plasma glucose, serum calcium, inorganic phosphorus, magnesium and 3- hydroxy butyratepre, during 3rt! - 41h - and 51h months of gestation and one month afterparturition. This study was conducted to follow up the animal during theperiod of high risk of pregnancy toxaemia. ll-Field Study: A- Control groups included , (20) ewes and (20) does were apparently clinically healthy at the late stage of pregnancy.B- Pregnant toxaemic groups included, (26) ewes and (32) does wereclassified according to the severity of observed clinical signs and revealed results of laboratory investigation into 3 groups: 1- Early stage included( 16) ewes and (18) does. 2- Advanced stage included (6 )ewes and (8) does.3- Terminal stage include (4 )ewes and( 6 )does
