Abstract:
Methyl thiophanate is benzimidazole fungicide. It is adimethyl (1,2-phenylene bis-iminocarbonothioyl bis ”carbamate”)with a chemical formula C\2H14N404S2.In this investigation, methyl thiophanate fungicide ’was chosento study its teratogenicity as well as its effect on male fertility inwhite rats.A- Teratological studies:In the teratological study sixty five mature albino rats of both sex (50female and 15 males) were used. They were divided into two subgroups. The first subgroup contain fifty two male and female albino rats in a ratioof 10 females with 3 males (40 females and 12 males). The females of the1 st subgroup given 1000 mg/kg ofthiophanate methyl. While the secondsubgroup (3 male and 10 female rats) served as control. Each female inoestrous phase was paired with proved fertile male overnight. Zero day ofpregnancy was determined by the presence of sperms in the vaginal smeartaken in the next morning. The treated rats were intubated once daily 1000 mg/kg of aqueoussuspension of methyl thiophanate on days from 6th to 16th of gestation (theperiod of organogensis).
