Abstract:
This study was designed to determine the effect of selenium and/or zincalone or in combination as adjuvants on the immune response of calves vaccinated with Foot and Mouth Disease vaccine. In this investigation, calves of 6-9 month old and about 150 ± 10 kg body weight were used. They weredivided into 4 groups, each of five (control group, selenium treated group, zinc treated group and selenium and zinc treated group). Calves of the control group were vaccinated subcutaneously (SIC) with 2ml FMDV type ”0”. Calves of selenium treated group addition, 5 calves were used for challenge test as a negative control(unvaccinated). from each calf, two blood samples were collected from jugular vein weekly along the experimental period (26 weeks). The first sample (10 ml blood was obtained in clean tubes containing heparin as anticoagulant) for cellular immunity tests.
