Effect of Ginseng on Male Fertility in Rabbit

Abstract:
This study was planned to study the effect of ginseng on male fertility inrabbits. ,The study was carried smt at the Department of Physiology, Faculty ofVeterinary Medicine, Zagazig University. In the present study eighteen maturemale rabbits weighted 2.5-3 Kg and aged 4-6 months were used.The animals were divided into two groups, the first was composed of tenanimals subjected to oral administration of ginseng extract for 3 months in adose of 50 mglKg body weight daily and the second group was composed ofeight animals and kept as control.The semen was collected from the control group and ginseng treatedgroup during the’ period of administration (after first, second, and third month),together with blood samples collected from the ear vein. Plasma was separatedand used for determination of testosterone; serum was used for determination ofnitrite level.The body weight and sex organs weights were recorded in both controland ginseng treated group. Furthermore, histopathological examination of testis,epididymis and seminal vesicle was performed.The obtained results revealed the followings:l-Semen characteristicsa- Ejaculate volume and initial pHThe obtained results revealed non significant in both ejaculatevolume and initial pH of semen following ginseng treatment.b- Mass motilityThere was an improvement in the mass motility of spermatozoa inthe ginseng treated group as compared with the control.
