Abstract:
Recent techniques for differentiation between pathogenic and non pathogenic avian P. multocida micro-organism.This study was carried out to:1- Investigate the prevalence of P. multocida serotypes among somebroiler, layer and breeder chicken flocks in Egypt.2- Identify the isolated P. multocida biochemically and serologically.3- Study the antibiotic sensitivity of isolated strains to the most availablechemotherapeutic agents in vitro.4- Determine the pathogenicity of isolated strains.5- Study the plasmid profiles of the isolated P. multocida strains. The obtained results could be summarized as follows:1- Thirty two P. multocida isolees could be obtained from 840 samples(taken from 161 flocks including 39 broilers, 47 layers and 75 breederflocks).2- The percentages of P. multocida isolation in layers and breeders were29.7% and 24%, respectively. The morbidity ranged from 12-17 % inlayers and 8-12 % in breeders but the mortality rate was 3-6 % and 4-7%in layers and breeders, respectively.3- The Thirty two P. multocida isolates could be typed:a- According to capsular typing by Indirect Haemagglutinationtest: 30 isolates could be typed as capsular (A), 1 typed as capsular(D) and 1 isolate was untypable.
