Abstract:
The objectives of this study arejirst;toevaluate the ability of juveniletilapia nilotica to utilize different levels of corn (as source of.carbohydrate) in terms of growth performance feed efficiency, proteinutilization indices, blood glucose, activity of some liver enzymes, body composition and histopathologicalchanges in tissues of liver, kidneys and spleen. Second to study the effects of dietary corn levelon apparentdigestibility coefficients of Dry matter, crude protein andlipid in the experimental diets. This study was conducted in twoseparate experiments:The first experiment (growth trial)TIns experiment was carried nut 10 .study the effects includingdifferent levels of yellow corn (as source of carbohydrate) in diets forNile tilapia niloticus. One hundred eighty Tilapia nilotica(Oreochromis niloticus) fingerlings taverage initial body weight; 7.74g) were.divided.intosix duplicates groups (each with 15 fish) in glassaquaria. Six isocaloric (3000 Kcal DE I kg of diet) and isonitrogenous(32 % CP)iliets were .formulated to-contain . different levels of corn(20J 25J 30, 35, 40 and 45 %) as the main source of carbohydrate .. Diets were pelted into a suitable size (L5-mm diameter) using apelting machine and. fed to fish (fur 14 weeks) as a percent of bodyweight. Fish were weighed every two weeks intervals and growthperformance and protein utilization indices were calculated Bloodsamples were taken to measure glucose level and activity of someliver enzymes. Samples of whole fish were analyzed fur moisture,
