Abstract:
During the last decades, many investigations have been conductedto identify the causative agent and risk factors hypothesized to beassociated with the occurrence of bovine clinical and subclinical mastitis in the different parts of the world. However, there has been less work done regarding the inflammation of the mammary glands in smallnuninant. The disease remains one of the most important cause of loss inmilk yield, mortality and premature culling.A total of 775 animals from different localities including 325 ewesand 450 goats were subjected to different examination for detection ofmastitis, 1350 milk samples were taken including 600 from ewes and 750from goats and were examined by California mastitis test. The resultsrevealed that, from sheep 300 samples were from healthy udder; 107were clinically mastitic and 193 from subclinically mastitic udder. fromgoats, 300 samples were healthy, 195 clinically mastitic and 265 fromsubclinically mastitic udder.Bacteriological examination of milk samples of ewes revealed theisolation of different species of bacteria from 13.3% of normal, 27.1 % of clinical and 2l.8% of subclinical mastitic milk samples. On other hand’bacteriological examination of milk samples of goats revealed theisolation of different species of bacteria from 15.6% of normal, 43.5% ofclinical and 20.4% of subclinical mastitic milk samples.
