Abstract:
Iodophors are combinations of iodine with detergents, wetting agents, solubilizers, and other carriers that ni’ay contain iodine as high as 30% oftheir weight, from which 70-80 % may be released as available iodinewhen the solution is diluted. They are used widely in dairy and poultryfarms as they are effective against most gram-positive and gram-negativebacteria.Quaternary ammonium compounds basically are organicallysubstituted ammonium compounds in which the nitrogen atom had acovalence of 5. They are used in disinfection, antisepsis, and preservation as good germicides. They are effective against gram- positive bacteria, and moderately against gram-negative bacteria. The efficacy of the recommended doses of the iodophor compou(Sanodrink S.C.)® antiseptics and/or disinfectants, in chickens wasinvestigated. Special emphasis was drawn to study the side effects of these antiseptics and/or disinfectants that could be reflected on performancepatterns, coagulation parameters, some liver and kidney functionalparameters, humoral immune response, and histopathological changesinvolving livers, kidneys, and upper intestines (duodenum). Also, specialattention was given to the effect of these antiseptics on the developingchicken embryos.
